MADISON, Wis. — Police are investigating a shooting outside the Dane County Jail in Madison Wednesday evening, the Madison Police Department confirmed.
A Dane County dispatcher said officers responded to the 200 block of South Carroll Street around 5 pm
Madison Police Department spokesperson Stephanie Fryer said multiple rounds were fired and one person was shot outside the jail and across the street from the City-County Building. The victim was taken to a hospital in an ambulance; their condition was not immediately available.
Witnesses told News 3 Now they saw a man on a stretcher getting chest compressions and a woman screaming for someone to save him. A woman was also seen being taken behind the police tape saying her brother had been shot.
Multiple evidence markers could be seen in the area of the shooting as police continued to process the scene just after 6 pm
No arrests have been made, Fryer said.
Police Chief Shon Barnes is expected to speak to reporters around 7:15 pm
